Background of the Study
Research in nursing plays an essential role in advancing clinical practices and improving patient outcomes. In the context of cardiac care, nursing research has contributed to developing evidence-based practices that enhance patient care, reduce complications, and promote recovery (Okeke et al., 2023). Nurses who actively engage in research are better equipped to implement best practices, stay informed about new developments in the field, and contribute to innovations that improve patient care (Adefolalu et al., 2024). In Kaduna State, nurses' involvement in cardiac research may lead to improved clinical practices, better patient education, and ultimately, higher-quality care for individuals with cardiovascular conditions.
However, despite the potential benefits of nurse-led or nurse-participated research, there has been limited exploration of how nurses' involvement in cardiac research directly influences the quality of care provided to patients in Kaduna State. This study aims to assess the impact of nurses' participation in cardiac research on the quality of patient care, with a focus on outcomes such as patient satisfaction, recovery rates, and adherence to treatment regimens.
Statement of the Problem
Cardiac care is complex and requires constant adaptation to new evidence-based practices. Nurses' participation in research can lead to the implementation of improved practices that enhance patient outcomes. However, it is unclear how nurses' involvement in cardiac research directly affects patient care quality in Kaduna State. This study seeks to examine the connection between nurses' participation in cardiac research and the quality of care delivered to cardiac patients, aiming to highlight the role of research in improving clinical practices and patient outcomes.
Objectives of the Study
1. To investigate the impact of nurses' participation in cardiac research on the quality of care provided to cardiac patients in Kaduna State.
2. To assess how research involvement influences nurses' clinical practices and decision-making in cardiac care.
3. To explore the outcomes of cardiac care in hospitals where nurses are actively involved in research compared to those where they are not.
Research Questions
1. How does nurses' participation in cardiac research affect the quality of care provided to patients in Kaduna State?
2. In what ways does involvement in cardiac research influence nurses' clinical practices and decision-making in cardiac care?
3. What are the outcomes of cardiac care in hospitals with active nurse participation in research?
Research Hypotheses
1. Nurses’ participation in cardiac research improves the quality of care provided to cardiac patients in Kaduna State.
2. Nurses actively involved in cardiac research exhibit better clinical practices and decision-making in patient care.
3. Hospitals with nurses engaged in cardiac research experience better patient outcomes and higher satisfaction levels compared to those without such involvement.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on nurses in Kaduna State who are involved in cardiac research and their impact on patient care. Limitations include the availability of nurses to participate in research and potential differences in hospital resources that may affect patient outcomes independently of nurses' research involvement.
